Q. Does the Publisher know you are putting the material on your web-site?
A. Yes.
Q. Doesn't the Publisher think he will lose sales?
A. There are two effects. One is foregone sales, the other is the advertising effect of publicising that the book exists, and letting people sample the material. The website is not a close substitute for the book, because reading on the screen is not a comfortable experience, and the layout of the material is far superior in the published format.
Q. I could print it out and staple it!
A. Try it! The format is poor on print-out and the diagram resolution is not good. It's also a lot of work.
Q. Are you going to do a download version which is easier to print out and read, and which I could pay you for?
A. No, it's just too complex sorting out copyright, payment mechanisms and arrangements with the Publisher. When e-books get to be mainstream, I hope the Publisher will consider it.
Q. I feel guilty about reading this and not paying for it.
A. I suggest you buy the print copy here (US) or here (UK).
